Russia tests sophisticated Zircon hypersonic missile
Russia’s armed forces have successfully conducted the first test of a state-of-the-art zircon hypersonic missile in the Barents Sea north of Russia.
The Ministry of Defense has released a video of that successful test.
Russia’s state news agency RT reported on Monday (October 4th).
Zircon was first prepared in 2016. It is an anti-ship missile; Which is capable of accelerating up to Mac 9.
It is designed to hit the surface of enemy ships, such as frigates and aircraft carriers, as well as ground targets within range of missiles.
Zircon’s speed is 9,600 to 11,000 kilometers per hour. It is difficult to shut down by any anti-aircraft system.
Although this latest launch is the first time a missile has been fired from a nuclear submarine. Earlier, troops test-fired the missile on the ground.
Last August, US Navy Admiral Charles A. Richard warned that hypersonic missiles made by both Moscow and Beijing were a major threat to the United States.
Earlier this year, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the country’s armed forces were rapidly modernizing missiles with “hypersonic and laser” systems and warned foreign opponents not to cross Moscow’s “red line.”
