The death toll from the floods in Germany has risen to 61, with thousands missing

The German army has been conducting rescue operations in flood-hit areas of the North Rhine-Westphalia region since Thursday morning. Vehicles parked on the road in several areas were seen floating in the water.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has called on victims to stand by.
