The Wuling Hong Guang Mini EV has become the world’s best-selling battery-powered car, beating the Tesla Model 3.
The Wuling Hong Guang Mini EV lags behind the Tesla Model 3 in battery power, range and performance, but is much cheaper than the Tesla electric sedan. The Wuling Hong Guang Mini EV is a small mini electric vehicle that is selling more than the Tesla Model 3 because of the price.
This small electric car made in China lost the Tesla Model 3 electric sedan and became the world’s best-selling EV in January and February 2021. The Hong Guang Mini EV sold in China for 28,800 yuan, the equivalent of about ,500 4,500. On the other hand, the Tesla Model 3 Rear-Drive Standard Range Plus variant starts at 38,190.
Despite lagging behind the small electric car Gula Tesla Model 3 in terms of battery power, range and performance, the Wuling Hong Guang Mini EV has made it one of the best-selling electric cars in the world with its advantages and affordable price.
The Wuling Hong Guang Mini EV sold more than 36,000 units in January 2021, compared to the Tesla Model 3, which sold about 21,500 units in the same month. As of February 2021, the Wuling Hong Guang Mini EV has sold more than 20,000 units, compared to 13,700 Tesla Model 3s.
The Wuling Hong Guang Mini EV is only 115 inches long, 59 inches wide, and about 64 inches high. The car has a wheelbase of only 76.4 inches and weighs only 665 kg. It is claimed that electric vehicles can travel 170 kilometers on a single charge. Small electric vehicles can reach a maximum speed of 100 kmph.
By comparison, the 2021 Tesla model weighs 1,587 kg and is 185 inches long. The electric sedan is 73 inches wide and 57 inches long. Also, it has a 113-inch wheelbase. The Tesla Model 3 is claimed to be capable of running 402 km on a single charge.
The Mini EV is manufactured under a joint venture between Chinese state-owned auto maker SAIC Motors and US auto giant General Motors. The auto company in the Chinese market is called Uling.
